Please note – lifeguard applicants must be at least 15 years of age by their first date of employment in order to be hired. The online application requires applicants to provide contact informationdate of birthposition applying foravailable dates, and qualifications. Be prepared to upload any certificates of training as applicable.

Interested applicants should expect to meet with Winkler supervisors at least once between April and early May to discuss hours of availability, expectations, and availability for training.

Lifeguard training, certification, and cost

Winkler Pool Management will offer a fully certified lifeguard and CPR training class at RGSTC. Tentative training dates will be either May 5th-7th or May 12th-14th. Class dates will be determined by instructor availability and the number of applicants requiring training and certification:

  • You must attend all 3 days of a course in order to be eligible for certification
  • Bathing suits, towels, and pens are required for each class
  • Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer: $199.00
  • Re-Certification for CPR: $65.00
  • Certifications will be issued once payment for the course has been received

Basic requirements

  • Swim 300 yards without stopping, while demonstrating both Freestyle and Breaststroke.
  • Tread water using only the legs continuously for 2 minutes. Hands must be kept either above the water or under each armpit and the head must remain above the surface. 
  • Swim 20 yards and submerge to a depth of 7-10 feet using a feet first surface dive. Retrieve a 10 lb. diving brick and return to the surface, then swim back to the starting point keeping the brick out of the water and holding it with both hands. You must complete this task in under 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Lifeguard applicants may source training and certification ahead of May through Fairfax County. The price may range between $200-$225. Winkler Management accepts certifications outside of their training: 

Pool Manager/Head Lifeguard and Assistant Head Lifeguard

Is your son or daughter interested in serving as the pool manager/head lifeguard? Winkler Pool Management and the RGSTC board are seeking someone who desires to serve as the manager and head lifeguard of the pool. This position offers an opportunity for increased responsibility and regular interaction with Winkler Management as well as all lifeguards. Interested applicants will attend a one on one with the Winkler Pool Manager, Mr. Chris Waters. Members of the board will assist in the interview process.

Names of recommended pool managers (or someone interested in being an assistant manager) should be e-mailed to both Rob Patrick: and Operations Manager Austin Ritzman: Please provide previous lifeguard experience if applicable and desire to be the head guard or an assistant manager.

In order to get ready for opening day, we would like to do two clean-up Saturdays:

March 25th & May 20th

Future emails will be sent out reminding you of these dates and asking you to volunteer a couple hours of your time to get the grounds ready for the upcoming season.  Student volunteers are welcome to help out for service hours.  Adult and other family members who volunteer will receive 10 concessions tickets (per family, per work day)
